A round of applause for the local heroes of 2020
2020 was a year to remember in many ways. With many highs, lows, and pretty much everything in-between. One thing that kept chins held high though, was the incredible commitment of certain individuals who never failed to lift spirits and remind Leicester that there was still hope.
Fosse Park was keen to credit these unsung heroes and called for nominations for their Fosse Heroes. The entries have been collected, counted, and out of 114 candidates, 20 winners have been chosen. See all 20 of the chosen heroes here.
Giving an example of one of the amazing submissions, Amy wrote to Fosse Park about her dad, Andy. The summer before COVID struck, Andy embarked on an exciting new business venture, opening a café in Narborough. Though, like many other businesses, during the UK lockdown Andy was at risk of losing everything.
This, however, didn’t stop Andy. Instead, he set up his own delivery service with a pay it forward scheme. Donating food and hot drinks to members of the community who were high risk, as well as our key workers and NHS staff, all free of charge. He did it all with a smile and a good heart, bringing little pockets of joy to those who needed it the most. Andy is an asset to our community and a true hero of 2020.
Fosse Park Centre Manager, Adrian Young said: “It was difficult to choose just 20 winners; each nomination was absolutely incredible and shows what a great community we have here in Leicester, and why we’re proud to call this place our home. We wanted to give back to our local heroes, and so every winner will receive £100 to spend at Fosse Park. They couldn’t be more deserving, well done everyone, you are our true heroes.
I’d also like to say a huge thank you to all our staff and shoppers who have continued to support us throughout 2020 and into 2021.”
